Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Tuesday, May 28
SGSHS graduating student to explain Good Friday science
Edgar Meyer, Clinical Anatomy Program graduating student in the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, will give the Catholic Students Association talk, "Anatomy of the Crucifixion: The Science Behind Good Friday," at noon on Tuesday, May 28, in classroom R354 (upper amphitheatre).
All Medical Center faculty, staff and students are invited. Lunch will be available to the first 50 in attendance. For more information, email emeyer@umc.edu.

Chief medical officer to host chat over coffee
Dr. Michael Henderson, chief medical officer, will host a “Coffee Talk” presentation from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in room R136.

Nebraska faculty to talk pre-transplant bariatric surgery
Dr. Corrigan L. McBride in the Department of Surgery-General Surgery at the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, will give the UMMC Department of Digestive Diseases presentation, "Bariatric Surgery in the Pre-Transplant Patient," at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, in classroom 4A (N413).

Yale faculty to tout peds neurosurgery during Andy Lecture
Dr. Kristopher Kahle, assistant professor of neurosurgery and pediatrics at the Yale University School of Medicine, will present the 2019 Orlando J. Andy Lecture and Neuroscience Grand Rounds, "Pediatric Neurosurgery with Molecular Precision," from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, in the Methodist Rehabilitation Bank Plus Conference Center on the second-floor atrium mall.

Preventive medicine fellow to give health policy overview
Dr. Akeem A. Adebayo, UMMC preventive medicine fellow, will give the Department of Preventive Medicine presentation, "Overview of Mississippi Health Policy Fellowship," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, on the first floor of the New Guyton library.

1 in 100 community event to address congenital heart disease
University Heart and Children's of Mississippi will host a free patient and family symposium, "1 in 100: Growing Up with Congenital Heart Disease," from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the Classroom Wing.
The event will include a discussion of the challenges of growing up with congenital heart disease and the important of lifelong care, a tour of the Heart Center, an echocardiogram demonstration, information about insurance coverage and interaction with heart doctors.

MIND Center chair to discuss Alzheimer's, dementia research
Dr. Tom Mosley, The MIND Center chair and director, will present “New Research into the Causes of Alzheimer’s and Dementia” during the "Mind Matters" program from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, in the second-floor conference rooms of the student union. Check-in will take place from 5:30-6 p.m.
